Asha, the small community library created at Vijay Mandir, Alwar, contains nearly 1000 books, periodicals, journals and newspapers. Meeting the needs of children from neighbouring villages, the library is open from eight in the morning till seven in the evening. Its popularity in a region that has abysmal literacy levels is reflective of the keenness of young girls and boys to reach out to books that inspire, enthral, educate, evoking new dreams and aspirations. Most of the books have been procured and donated by Sujata Prasad and Akhilesh Jha. Sujata has also created a special section on Mahatma Gandhi, with books and photographs sourced from Gandhian Institutions and her father’s personal archival-collection.
