Support the Girl Child Program
It is accepted that education and learning are critical for the progress and growth of the country. For girls the challenges to become employable are insurmountable. Boys traditionally get preference in the family for higher education. Girls have to attend to household work in addition to their studies. They cannot cope with the pace at School. Girls who want to go for higher education cannot join programs from home. Therefore it is a big challenge for girls from poor families, to access quality education and become self-dependent.
It is very often said when you educate a boy, you educate an individual and when you educate a girl, you educate an entire family. An educated woman has the self-confidence, skills as well as intelligence to understand the need to be a better daughter, sister, wife, and mother and make a progressive family. Education is the only tool with which a girl can empower herself and eventually her family. In this background NGO SAPNA began a program in 2010 named PANKHURI;.
The overall objective of this project is to provide an opportunity to rural girls from disadvantaged families to get quality education and conducive environment for overall development. Initially, the program started for girls from underprivileged families from Village Kaduki.
Kaduki village is located in Alwar district, adjacent to Vijay Mandir. It has a population of 993 and comprises 162 households. The main occupation of the villagers is farming and cattle rearing. There is just one upper primary school in the village. For girls of poor families effectively higher education is not in reach. Later we started to enroll underprivileged girls in programs from other nearby villages like Thekra etc.
