Anandam, Noida – A Home for the Homeless
The Short Stay Home was started on 6th April, 2017. The previous experience of SAPNA extending support to the poor and needy patients at the apex government hospitals in Delhi gave rise to the idea of expanding our Anandam Alwar Project. The main motive was to start a facility for short-stay patient care in Delhi NCR and also provide a facility for patients coming from Alwar. The patients have to stay on an average for 15 days in Delhi depending upon the diagnosis and entails recovery from a serious medical event, such as an accident or multiple traumas, paralysis, orthopedic or a surgical procedure.
One of the major problems faced by SAPNA was bringing the patients from Delhi to Alwar for frequent treatment keeping in view the distance and medical condition of the patient. SAPNA was looking for a short stay facility in Delhi NCR region for patients accessing medical services at the Safdarjung Hospital, All India Institute of Medical Sciences & Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre. In its effort to reach out to people and extend a helping hand to those who could not sustain their treatment in Delhi, SAPNA started looking for an infrastructure which can be used as a hospice. Fortunately, after a long wait, Mr Nisheeth Arora was kind enough to offer a house in Noida (B-80, Sector 31, Noida) for the said purpose. SAPNA is currently providing short stay facility to 16 patients.
The prime objective is to provide short stay care facilities to unknown patients coming for treatment in Apex Hospitals in Delhi. The short-term goal was to provide immediate care support to unknown patients discharged from the Safdarjung Hospital, All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre. Once the patients start recovering from their ailments, our social workers engage them in day to day activities of SAPNA. Once the patient recovers, we either send them home or rehabilitate them in Delhi or at Anandam in Alwar. We at SAPNA are always trying to identify their core strengths and provide them appropriate training to become contributing citizens. We strongly believe in changing lives through continuous effort.
