Support a Kidney Patient
Another initiative taken by SAPNA has been to support very poor patients suffering from
kidney ailments or having undergone a kidney transplant surgery. A large number of poor patients from far-flung areas of the country, especially Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, suffering from kidney ailments come to AIIMS and stay at Rajgarhea Vishram Sadan. The treatment is frightfully expensive and has to be sustained for long periods. Ultimately, most patients are financially devastated and give up their treatment, unable to bear the expenses, and resign themselves to fate. SAPNA supports such poor patients by providing medicines and dialysis free of cost on a sustained basis every month. Severe fund constraint have prevented us from covering several other patients requiring medicines and dialysis. SAPNA provides medicines worth approx Rs. 5000 – 10000 each month to these patients.
SAPNA has progressively expanded support to renal patients after their transplant. What began with the support of 3-4 patients every month has grown to over 10-15 patients. In renal care, our social workers take hospital rounds routinely to identify post surgery patients who would require medicinal needs to continue their post kidney surgery recovery. In FY 2024-25, we successfully bridged the accessibility gap in availing medicines and medical equipment/procedure such as dialysis. We distributed 34 kidney treatment related medicines and helped to procure 83 dialysis procedure for destitute patients. We would specially like to acknowledge the amazing support received from Trikaal Foods & Agro Private Limited & Magnon Ltd in running our renal care project.
